Scarlett Johansson was born on the 22nd of November, 1984 at New York City New York. She is an American singer/actress whose range has earned her recognition in a variety of types of films ranging from thrillers and action films to period dramas. Johansson was born in New York City, and was raised by an father who was an architect and her mother, a producer. Her twin brother Hunter were the youngest of four siblings. When she was a child, she developed a passion for acting. She began performing in commercials by the age seven. In order to improve her abilities, she studied at an acting class at Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in Manhattan and then the Professional Children's School. In the Off-Broadway production Sophistry she co-starred with Ethan Hawke. She then appeared in her first film with North (1994), directed by Rob Reiner, at age nine. Johansson later appeared on the screen in Just Cause (1995), however, her breakthrough was with Manny & Lo a coming of age drama about sisters who run away. Then, she was awarded critical praise for portraying an teen girl who suffered an accident that left her disfigured in The Horse Whisperer (1998). Her popularity grew for her performance in Ghost World (2002) as the self-deprecating outcast Rebecca. Renee Felice Smith's path into entertainment began from a young age. When she was a kid, she became interested in performing. Smith's parents helped her with getting her first role in the acting world at age six. She was in a Dannon yogurt TV commercial. Similar to other novice actresses the actress honed her talents in the theatre. As she worked on other projects around the USA she made her theatrical debut in Wildflower. She studied at the Stonestreet Studios Conservatory of the New York University Tisch School of the Arts.
